Two members of the EnvBioProM team present at the International Conference on Water, Energy and Environment (ICWEE) 2015 hosted at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), UAE.
Wasim Ahmed (pictured above), PhD student at Masdar Institute, gave an oral presentation titled "Modelling sulphate reduction in anaerobic digestion: A model complexity comparative study", which focused in depth on his research on different modelling efforts for the description and prediction of anaerobic processes dealing with sulphate reduction side reactions.
Meanwhile Joao Uratani, Research Engineer at EnvBioProM, gave an oral presentation titled "Anaerobic digestion of halophytic biomass extractive under various levels of salinity", which focused on the potential of anaerobic digestion of biomass under high salt concentrations.
The presentations were held on 24-26 March 2015 at AUS in Sharjah, UAE.

EnvBioProM students at UAE GSRC 2015

Two students present their curent research efforts and results in the Graduate Students Research Conference (GSRC) 2015
The oral presentations by Wasim Ahmed, PhD student at Masdar Institute and Kulthoum Ismail, MSc student at Masdar Institute, highlighted their respective research topics and current results at the conference, which happened on 22-24 March 2015.
Wasim's presentation was titled "Modelling sulphate reduction in anaerobic digestion: A model complexity comparative study", while Kulthoum's (pictured above) was titled "Achieving Efficient Nitrogen Removal in High Temperature and Salinity Wastewater Treatment A Microbial Process Modelling Approach". Both talks were well-received by their respective audiences and provided a chance to highlight the current research efforts by EnvBioProM.

Watch Prof. Rodríguez's presentation at Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI) Workshop

Video of talk now online at INI's Understanding Microbial Communities (UMC) Series' workshop website
On Friday 28 November 2014 Dr Rodríguez presented an invited seminar at the workshop "Engineering and Control of Natural and Synthetic Microbial Communities" part of the series Understanding Microbial Communities (UMC). This programme is hosted by The Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge University, UK. Dr Rodríguez talk was entitled "Can bioenergetics tell us more about microbial ecosystems activity than community identity?" and focused on his recent research primarily together with Ms Rebeca González-Cabaleiro (PhD student at the USC, Spain) and other collaborators such as Dr Robbert Kleerebezem from TU Delft, NL and Prof Juan M. Lema (USC, Spain). The talk, that was very well received with follow up interest and questions, can be viewed in full and downloaded at the official website.

Poster award at IWA Science Summit for Urban Water in Harbin, China

A scientific poster authored by EnvBioProM members has been awarded at the IWA Science Summit for Urban Water in Harbin, China
The poster, titled "Modelling the bioelectrochemical conversion of VFAs to alcohols: impact of operational variables", was awarded the "Best Poster Award, 2nd Prize" as part of the official programme of the conference.
This work presents part of the results Mr. Tolutola Oyetunde, an alumnus of Masdar Institute, achieved while conducting his research under Prof. Jorge Rodríguez's guidance at the EnvBioProM lab. This poster was developed in collaboration with researchers from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Congratulations to the authors!
